The recognition event is an opportunity for a night of fellowship and great food as we acknowledge and thank our adult volunteers for the hard work and dedication that made this year incredibly successful. Mustang District’s outstanding leaders at the unit and district levels will also be recognized.  All volunteers in Mustang District are invited.

​Training is an important part of learning to become an effective leader. Trained leaders impact the quality of programs, leader tenure, youth tenure, and a whole lot more. A trained leader is better prepared to make the Scouting program all it can be! Every Scout deserves a trained leader. See the council training schedule for a list of additional trainings offered around the council. 

IOLS: Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (S11) Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank.  Topics covered: • Campsite Selection • Ropes – Whipping, Tying, and Lashing • Wood Tools – Knife, Camp Saw, and Ax • Fire Site Preparation and Building • Cooking • First Aid • Plant and Animal Identification • Packing and Hiking Techniques • Map and Compass • Leave No Trace. The training encompasses a weekend.

Trail to Troop is a special outdoor adventure for Webelos Scouts (4^th and 5^th graders), featuring the many outdoor adventures of Scouting, including archery, BB-gun shooting, hiking, knots, and first aid. A campfire program and Arrow of Light ceremony is held on Saturday evening.

Early-bird fee: RSVP, pay the deposit, and provide estimated registration numbers by 12/31/25 to receive a special early-bird registration fee.

Camporee is a weekend campout for troops around the district. Scouts in patrols compete in various competitions and are judged on leadership, teamwork, skill demonstration and Scout spirit.

BALOO is the Cub Scout leader training required for any Cub Scout pack outdoor event, including pack camping, and Webelos and Arrow of Light den overnighters. BALOO training is comprised of two components – an online training, and a practical in-person training conducted during an overnight campout. Both components must be completed to qualify as a “Trained” Cub Scout outdoor leader and to receive the BALOO recognition patch. The online component contains introductory and basic information and must be completed prior to the practical component at my.scouting.org. The practical component is an overnight campout and 16 hours of onsite training.
