Texas Skies District Roundtable

roundtableRoundtable is a district monthly meeting typically held the second Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm at Houston Community College in room 101 A/B ( 22910 Colonial Parkway, Katy, TX 77449) to help unit leaders plan and carry out their own program.  Roundtable is a form of supplemental training for volunteers. The objective of roundtable is to give leaders program ideas, information on events and training opportunities, and an opportunity to share experiences and enjoy fun and fellowship with other Scouting leaders. As a result of the roundtable experience, unit leaders will be inspired, motivated, informed, and able to provide a stronger program for their Scouts.

Merit Badge Fair

Merit Badge FairThe Merit Badge Fair is an opportunity for Scouts in troops, crews, or ships of any rank, to work on one or two merit badges. These are not giveaway merit badges, and this is not a merit badge factory. Each Scout is expected to prepare ahead of time (by reading the merit badge book and completing prerequisites), and to participate fully during the course in order to receive credit for the requirements completed. 

Volunteers and Merit Badge Counselors Needed: Adult participation is required to offer this event. Every unit with Scouts participating is expected to provide at least one volunteer for every six Scouts attending. Adults (with YPT training) are needed to assist merit badge counselors and serve in additional roles such as check-in.

Cub Leader Training

Merit Badge Fair Training is an important part of learning to become an effective leader. Trained leaders impact the quality of programs, leader tenure, youth tenure, and much more. A trained leader is better prepared to make the Scouting program all it can be! Every Scout deserves a trained leader. This event covers three trainings:

• Den Leader Position-Specific Training (C42) provides Cub Scout den leaders with the basic information they need to conduct successful den meetings. 

• Cubmaster and Assistant Cubmaster Position-Specific Training (C40) is intended to provide Cubmasters and assistant Cubmasters with the basic information they need to conduct successful pack meetings. 

• Pack Committee Chair Training (C60) is intended to familiarize pack committee members with the various responsibilities of the individual members of the committee as well as the committee as a whole. The goal is to help each pack committee work as a team to improve the Scouting experience for adult and youth members.

BALOO Training

October 10-11, 2025

Merit Badge FairTraining is an important part of learning to become an effective leader. Trained leaders impact the quality of programs, leader tenure, youth tenure, and a whole lot more. A trained leader is better prepared to make the Scouting program all it can be! Every Scout deserves a trained leader. See the council training schedule for a list of additional trainings offered around the council. 

BALOO is the Cub Scout leader training required for any Cub Scout pack outdoor event, including pack camping, and Webelos and Arrow of Light den overnighters. BALOO training is comprised of two components – an online training, and a practical in-person training conducted during an overnight campout. Both components must be completed to qualify as a “Trained” Cub Scout outdoor leader and to receive the BALOO recognition patch. The online component contains introductory and basic information and must be completed prior to the practical component at my.scouting.org. The practical component is an overnight campout and 16 hours of onsite training. Training is an important part of learning to become an effective leader. Trained leaders impact the quality of programs, leader tenure, youth tenure, and much more. A trained leader is better prepared to make the Scouting program all it can be! Nothing highlights the fun and excitement of Scouting like being in the outdoors. Whether it’s day camp, summer camp, or a fall camporee, getting outside is what kids want to do! And no one does ”the outdoors” better than Scouting America. Let’s help new families join the fun. The Scouting America Brand Center has posters, logos, customizable recruiting materials, and more that can be downloaded and printed! Unit leaders can order customized fliers for packs and troops to help recruit Scouts and invite families to join us in the outdoors as we #AdventureOn!

Full Throttle

September 12-14, 2025

Full Throttle is a weekend event for troops. Scouts spend a half-day participating in program areas such as shooting sports, climbing, swimming, ziplining, and boating, and a half-day working on a merit badges related to essential Scouting skills.


Leave No Trace Trainer Course

September 26-28, 2025

​​The Leave No Trace Instructor Level 1 Course (D78) is an overnight course for individuals aged 14 and above who wish to guide units in developing a culture that effectively demonstrates responsible outdoor choices, reducing the impacts of Scouting activities. Leave No Trace Instructor Level 1, outdoor ethics guides, and outdoor ethics advisors are the backbone of Scouting’s outdoor ethics program, providing instruction to individuals and units wishing to adopt cutting-edge outdoor ethics into their unit programs.

Full Throttle

October 3-5, 2025

Full Throttle is a weekend event for Scouts in troops, crews, ships, and individual Scouts. Scouts spend a half-day participating in program areas such as shooting sports, climbing, swimming, ziplining, and boating. Scouts will spend a half-day working on a merit badge. Full Throttle is a great way for Scouts to have fun and learn various watercraft, navigation, and aquatics skills from our Sea Scouts.

Campsgiving

November 23-25, 2025

Campsgiving, held during Thanksgiving break, is the turducken of camps for troops —an all-in-one experience combining a traditional camp (Turkey Camp), STEM Camp, and Mission Lone Star. Whether you're a Scout seeking merit badges, scientific discovery, or high-adventure thrills, there's something here for everyone.

Winter Camp

December 26-31, 2025

Winter camp is a wonderful opportunity for troops to camp and Scouts to earn merit badges and participate in fun evening program and activities There are over 80 merit badge classes taught by Scouters with real-life experiences in the field. Similar to summer camp, Super Troop is being added for individual Scouts.

NYLT

December 26-31, 2025

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an exciting, action-packed six-day council-level program designed to provide Scouts in troops, crews, and ships with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home units and other situations demanding leadership of self and others.

Range and Target Activities Training

Scouting America, in consultation with other organizations, has developed specific guidelines, training, and instructor certification for Scouts and Scouters who will serve in leadership or supervisory roles in various range and target activities. Cub Scout Range Master, USA Archery, and NRA courses are being offered.

First Aid Training

 

The Scout Oath instills in youth that, “On my honor I will do my best … to help other people at all times.” Emergency care is no exception. CPR/AED, first aid, and wilderness first aid trainings are offered to help Scouting America volunteers and staff members teach Scouts how to provide life-saving care in the event of an emergency.
