Youth Protection Training (YPT) is designed to help keep youth safe from abuse. During YPT, participants learn the Youth Protection Guidelines, signs of abuse, and how to report suspected abuse. After each section of material, participants will answer questions about that section’s topic. This course must be completed by all registered leaders, and is highly recommended for parents and other adults working with youth.
Read more about mandatory reporting of child abuse or youth protection policies.
To increase awareness of youth protection and to create even greater barriers to abuse than already exist today, Scouting America has implemented several youth protection policies.
- Proof of Youth Protection Training (YPT) must be turned in alongside an adult's registration paperwork and fees before their application can be processed.
- Youth Protection Training (YPT) must be taken every two years. If a volunteer’s YPT is not current at the time of the unit's recharter, the volunteer will not be re-registered, and the unit's recharter paperwork will be delayed. Because of the timing on recharter paperwork, adults are encouraged to renew their YPT course between April 1st and November 1st.
