Special Events

Support the Sam Houston Area Council

The Sam Houston Area Council hosts a number of special events throughout the year to fund various Scouting programs and to recognize the outstanding individuals that provide those programs. Here are some events coming up this year:

The Celebrating Cultures community and business leader networking event celebrates African-American, Asian and Hispanic cultures, and highlight the wonderful and unique food, beverages, dress and customs of these prominent cultures in Southeast Texas.
The Distinguished Corporate Citizen Award Dinner affords an opportunity to honor individuals, families, or corporations who have made a distinct difference in the fabric of Southeast Texas. Proceeds support the many youth development programs of the Sam Houston Area Council.
The Dodgeball Challenge is a fundraiser that helps the council achieve its mission of preparing young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. As many as 60 ten-player teams compete for the Patches O’Houllihan Championship Cup.

The New Eagle Scout Reception recognizes the previous year’s Eagle Scout Class. The council continues its tradition of providing this reception is free of charge for new Eagle Scouts and their guests.  The evening is underwritten with generous sponsorships by many Eagle Scout alumni, charter members and patrons.

The Sporting Clays Tournament is an annual event to support the Sam Houston Area Council's programs for at-risk youth. Up to one hundred four-person teams can compete in the shotgun shooting game.
