Texas Skies District Roundtable

roundtableRoundtable is a district monthly meeting typically held the second Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm at Houston Community College in room 101 A/B ( 22910 Colonial Parkway, Katy, TX 77449) to help unit leaders plan and carry out their own program.  Roundtable is a form of supplemental training for volunteers. The objective of roundtable is to give leaders program ideas, information on events and training opportunities, and an opportunity to share experiences and enjoy fun and fellowship with other Scouting leaders. As a result of the roundtable experience, unit leaders will be inspired, motivated, informed, and able to provide a stronger program for their Scouts.

Rocket Day

Rocket DayYouth who join Cub Scouts this year will receive a rocket that they can design and build at home. Youth in kindergarten through fifth grade who are interested in joining Scouting may also attend. We will help you find a pack near you and get signed up for Scouting.

BALOO Training

Merit Badge FairTraining is an important part of learning to become an effective leader. Trained leaders impact the quality of programs, leader tenure, youth tenure, and a whole lot more. A trained leader is better prepared to make the Scouting program all it can be! Every Scout deserves a trained leader. See the council training schedule for a list of additional trainings offered around the council. 

BALOO is the Cub Scout leader training required for any Cub Scout pack outdoor event, including pack camping, and Webelos and Arrow of Light den overnighters. BALOO training is comprised of two components – an online training, and a practical in-person training conducted during an overnight campout. Both components must be completed to qualify as a “Trained” Cub Scout outdoor leader and to receive the BALOO recognition patch. The online component contains introductory and basic information and must be completed prior to the practical component at my.scouting.org. The practical component is an overnight campout and 16 hours of onsite training. Training is an important part of learning to become an effective leader. Trained leaders impact the quality of programs, leader tenure, youth tenure, and much more. A trained leader is better prepared to make the Scouting program all it can be! Cuboree

October 17-19, 2025

cuboreeCuboree is a weekend campout for Cub Scouts and their families. Let the games begin! Test your Scout skills at this weekend event for Cub Scouts (kindergarten through 5th grade) and their families, marking the start of the Scouting year. Scouts and their families can camp with their pack for the weekend or attend the Saturday activities.

Scouts will participate in games, field events, STEM-related activities, and range and target activities. Each pack will compete to earn points, with awards being given at the campfire.

​​The Leave No Trace Instructor Level 1 Course (D78) is an overnight course for individuals aged 14 and above who wish to guide units in developing a culture that effectively demonstrates responsible outdoor choices, reducing the impacts of Scouting activities. Leave No Trace Instructor Level 1, outdoor ethics guides, and outdoor ethics advisors are the backbone of Scouting’s outdoor ethics program, providing instruction to individuals and units wishing to adopt cutting-edge outdoor ethics into their unit programs.

October 3-5, 2025

Full Throttle is a weekend event for Scouts in troops, crews, ships, and individual Scouts. Scouts spend a half-day participating in program areas such as shooting sports, climbing, swimming, ziplining, and boating. Scouts will spend a half-day working on a merit badge. Full Throttle is a great way for Scouts to have fun and learn various watercraft, navigation, and aquatics skills from our Sea Scouts.

Winter camp is a wonderful opportunity for troops to camp and Scouts to earn merit badges and participate in fun evening program and activities There are over 80 merit badge classes taught by Scouters with real-life experiences in the field. Similar to summer camp, Super Troop is being added for individual Scouts.

Full Throttle is a weekend event for troops. Scouts spend a half-day participating in program areas such as shooting sports, climbing, swimming, ziplining, and boating, and a half-day working on a merit badges related to essential Scouting skills.

Scouting America, in consultation with other organizations, has developed specific guidelines, training, and instructor certification for Scouts and Scouters who will serve in leadership or supervisory roles in various range and target activities. Cub Scout Range Master, USA Archery, and NRA courses are being offered.

CPR/AED, first aid, and wilderness first aid trainings are offered to help Scouting America volunteers and staff members teach Scouts how to provide life-saving care in the event of an emergency.
