Texas Skies District Roundtable

roundtableRoundtable is a district monthly meeting typically held the second Thursday of the month at Powerhouse Christian Church (1818 Katyland Dr., Katy, TX 77493) at 7:00 pm to help unit leaders plan and carry out their own program.  Roundtable is a form of supplemental training for volunteers. The objective of roundtable is to give leaders program ideas, information on events and training opportunities, and an opportunity to share experiences and enjoy fun and fellowship with other Scouting leaders. As a result of the roundtable experience, unit leaders will be inspired, motivated, informed, and able to provide a stronger program for their Scouts. Day Camp

Day CampGet ready for Cub Scout Day Camp 2024: Outdoor Adventure! Cub Scouts will explore a variety of Outdoor Adventures, learn new skills, and make new friends! Day Camp is open to Scout entering 1st grade - 5th grade next school year. Day camp is a week of fun with awesome programs and activities such as BB guns, archery, sports, STEM, games and crafts, rank advancements, Scout skills, fun, and more.

Texas Skies Camporee

March 22-24, 2024

CamporeeCamporee is a weekend campout for troops. Patrols from different troops will compete in various competitions and be judged on leadership, teamwork, Scouting skills and Scout spirit. Scouts from different troops will come together for friendly competition! In addition, Scouts will have an opportunity to learn from and about each other through team building and skill-based activities.

The weekend will afford troops an opportunity to focus on key Scouting rank requirements in addition to teamwork and camaraderie. Events are competitive; however, the main aim is to practice new and fun skills, sportsmanship and outreach to other Scouts.

IOLS Training

trainingTraining is an important part of learning to become an effective leader. Trained leaders impact the quality of programs, leader tenure, youth tenure, and a whole lot more. A trained leader is better prepared to make the Scouting program all it can be! Every Scout deserves a trained leader. See the council training schedule for a list of additional trainings offered around the council. For more information about training, contact David Sealy

IOLS: Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (S11) Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank.  Topics covered: • Campsite Selection • Ropes – Whipping, Tying, and Lashing • Wood Tools – Knife, Camp Saw, and Ax • Fire Site Preparation and Building • Cooking • First Aid • Plant and Animal Identification • Packing and Hiking Techniques • Map and Compass • Leave No Trace. The training encompasses a weekend.

Trail to Eagle Camp

March 9-11, 2024

Trail to Eagle is a council-organized overnight camp for Scouts BSA, similar to summer camp that operates under council-retained leadership. The program provides opportunities for Scouts to earn Eagle-required merit badges along their advancement trail. Troops and individual Scouts can attend.

University of Scouting

University of Scouting is a semi-annual supplemental training program. The spring event will focus on outdoor trainings to help leaders enhance their ability to deliver a fun and exciting program to the Scouts. Classes range from a half-day to the entire weekend. Courses offered:

Adventure Camp

Adventure Camp is a weekend campout at Bovay Scout Ranch for Cub Scouts and their families. Scouts can participate in an exciting variety of activities at several program areas and STEM-based activities. 


Full Throttle

Full Throttle is a weekend event for Scouts in troops, crews, ships, and individual Scouts. Scouts spend a half-day participating in program areas such as shooting sports, climbing, swimming, ziplining, and boating. Scouts will spend a half-day working on a merit badge. Full Throttle is a great way for Scouts to have fun, learn essential skills that could be useful in a survival scenario, and earn survival-related merit badges.

Summer Camp

Summer Camp is a week-long council-organized overnight camp for Scouts in troops that operates under council-retained leadership. There are unique programs for first-year Scouts and experienced Scouts. Summer camp is held at Camp Strake, a first-class and state-of-the-art facility for Scouts and their leaders. Program areas include shooting sports (rifle, shotgun, archery, sporting arrows), climbing, rappelling, boating (canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, rowing), swimming, ATV riding, ziplining, cycling, merit badge classes and more.

Strake Odyssey
