Texas Skies District Roundtable

roundtableRoundtable is a district monthly meeting typically held the second Thursday of the month at location TBD at 7:00 pm to help unit leaders plan and carry out their own program.  Roundtable is a form of supplemental training for volunteers. The objective of roundtable is to give leaders program ideas, information on events and training opportunities, and an opportunity to share experiences and enjoy fun and fellowship with other Scouting leaders. As a result of the roundtable experience, unit leaders will be inspired, motivated, informed, and able to provide a stronger program for their Scouts. Troop Fair

Meet the TroopsThe Troop Fair is an opportunity for Arrow of Light Scouts to meet with troops, crews, and ships in the district. All 4th and 5th-grade Scouts, Scouts BSA youth (ages 10-17) and their parents are invited to the Texas Skies Troop Fair. 

Arrow of Light Scouts must make a decision that will impact their Scouting career: the choice of which troop to join. They are then encouraged to visit several different troop meetings before selecting a troop to join. A list of troops in our area and their typical meeting night and location is available.

BALOO Training

BALOOTraining is an important part of learning to become an effective leader. Trained leaders impact the quality of programs, leader tenure, youth tenure, and a whole lot more. A trained leader is better prepared to make the Scouting program all it can be! Every Scout deserves a trained leader. See the council training schedule for a list of additional trainings offered around the council. 

BALOO is the Cub Scout leader training required for any Cub Scout pack outdoor event, including pack camping, and Webelos and Arrow of Light den overnighters. BALOO training is comprised of two components – an online training, and a practical in-person training conducted during an overnight campout. Both components must be completed to qualify as a “Trained” Cub Scout outdoor leader and to receive the BALOO recognition patch. The online component contains introductory and basic information and must be completed prior to the practical component at my.scouting.org. The practical component is an overnight campout and 16 hours of onsite training. Training is an important part of learning to become an effective leader. Cub Leader Training

Cub TrainingTraining is an important part of learning to become an effective leader. Trained leaders impact the quality of programs, leader tenure, youth tenure, and much more. A trained leader is better prepared to make the Scouting program all it can be! Every Scout deserves a trained leader. This event covers three trainings;

• Den Leader Position-Specific Training (C42) provides Cub Scout den leaders with the basic information they need to conduct successful den meetings. 

• Cubmaster and Assistant Cubmaster Position-Specific Training (C40) is intended to provide Cubmasters and assistant Cubmasters with the basic information they need to conduct successful pack meetings. 

• Pack Committee Chair Training (C60) is intended to familiarize pack committee members with the various responsibilities of the individual members of the committee as well as the committee as a whole. The goal is to help each pack committee work as a team to improve the Scouting experience for adult and youth members.

Aquatics Day

Aquatics Day is an event for Scouts in troops, crews, and ships. Scouts can participate in canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, rowboats, swimming in the pool and the obstacle course. Additional program areas will be open. The camp staff provides the program leadership with the support of unit leaders.


Key Leader Conference

Key Leader's Conference is an annual meeting and orientation for all district committee members and commissioners. The training covering the basics of district operations and the role the district plays in supporting units and delivering the Scouting program. Participants will then have an opportunity to meet and interact with other district leaders during the committee breakout sessions.

Adventure Camp is a weekend campout at Bovay Scout Ranch for Cub Scouts and their families. Scouts can participate in an exciting variety of activities at several program areas and STEM-based activities.
