Scoutbook

ScoutbookScoutbook / Scoutbook Plus is Scouting America’s online unit management tool and helps Scouts, parents and leaders track advancement and milestone achievements along the Scouting trail.

  Handout for leaders

  1. Scouts, parents, and leaders can view Scouts’ official advancement record anytime.
  2. The unit can make adjustments as necessary without contacting the council.
  3. Scoutbook automatically keeps the unit in compliance with advancement reporting requirements.
  4. When a Scout moves, their advancement record follows them.
  5. Scoutbook has messaging, forums, service, hiking, camping, tracking, and calendaring features.
  6. Units do not have to subscribe to Scoutbook; it is a free service provided to every unit. It is an optional service provided by Scouting America.

Scoutbook Plus allows the unit to enter youth advancements, awards, and merit badges and perform the following actions:

  • Select members from the existing roster,
  • Review, update, or add ranks, merit badges, and/or awards,
  • Access an online Review Unit Roster feature and the Unit Advancement Summary,
  • Print an Advancement Report with a Unit Awards Summary to assist in purchasing.

Scouting App

ScoutbookScoutbookThe Scouting app, developed by Scouting America, allows youth members and their parents to view and track advancement within Cub Scouting, Scouts BSA, and Venturing. It’s free and available on iOS and Android devices. The Scouting app connects to Scoutbook to sync existing advancement data. Because this information is stored on your device, you can use the Scouting app offline. That means parents and youth (13 and older) can access their advancement data anywhere, at any time. After downloading the Scouting app, parents and youth use their Scoutbook credentials to log in.

Scoutbook Updates

Scoutbook is being updated.  Users are directed to the appropriate interface automatically for the task at hand. Features being retained in Scoutbook:

  • Payment Log: This feature remains in Scoutbook Legacy.
  • Messaging: For sending messages to large distribution lists (due to a bug in Scoutbook Plus messaging).
  • Merit Badge Counselor (MBC) Management: Unit leaders still use the legacy system to search for, connect with, and manage Merit Badge Counselors.
  • MBC Requirement Completion: Counselors are still using the legacy interface to mark requirements as completed for Scouts.

Features being migrated to Scoutbook Plus (Internet Advancement 2.0) include:

  • Recording most advancements (especially all Cub Scout advancements).
  • Managing unit rosters and leader positions with a new position-based permissions model.
  • Logging activities and service hours.
  • Managing unit calendars and events.

Users can access the new interface directly at advancements.scouting.org using their existing my.scouting.org login credentials. For assistance or to stay updated on the transition, users are encouraged to visit the Scoutbook Forums
