Request Recruitment Fliers

flierThe membership campaign focuses on recruiting new families to the fun and adventures of Cub Scouting. Begin your planning by attending the district's fall recruiting training in August and spring recruiting training in March typically held at roundtable. Involve all your pack leaders in recruiting by inviting everyone to the training! The council provides a variety of support materials for your pack.  (Troops, crews and ships can order fliers here). Resources: shacbsa.org/recruiting.

Orders are placed through the district executive using the request form below.

Please order fliers at least two weeks in advance. For questions, contact the district membership chairdistrict executive, or Tami Kinn.

Flier Distribution

When ordering printed fliers for schools, remember to include kindergarten through fifth grade (about 22 fliers per classroom). If girls or boys-only units, plan on about 15 fliers per classroom (since about half the class is girls or boys).

Some answers below might be N/A.

Some schools allow a reminder card (invite) to be sent a day or two before the recruiting night event.

Some schools have requirements on when fliers can be distributed (e.g., must be dropped off a week in advance or the same week as the event).

Scout Talks

scout talksScout talks can make a huge difference when signing up new Cub Scouts! A Scout Talk is simply visiting each classroom and getting the youth excited about Scouting. The Scout Talk is where youth excitement is created. The district’s Cub Scout sign-up training will help give you the skills to put on an effective youth talk. Scout talks work best by going class-to-class and giving a five-minute promotion on the fun that Scouting has to offer. If this scenario is not feasible then a school assembly will work; however, classroom talks are best. When speaking with the school, thank them for working with us in the development of youth and their community. Consult your district executive if you need assistance or need help talking with the school administrators. These energetic in-school presentations will dramatically increase the success of your recruitment!

Stickers can be distributed to Scouts during Scout Talks to help Scouts remind their parents about the Sign-up Night.

Peer-to-Peer Cards

Peer-to-PeerHappy Scouts are the best ambassadors of Scouting! Structure your programs and activities so that “bring a friend” becomes the norm.

Peer-to-Peer Cards are a great tool to help Scouts invite their friends to participate in unit activities. Plus, they help the parents of prospects understand what their kids have been invited to do.

Open Houses

Setting up an informational table at a school’s open house works well, but it should be designed to invite parents to the sign-up night.

Second Recruiting Night

Packs are encouraged to hold two recruiting nights. The second recruiting night could be held at pack meeting or pack event in late September or early October.

"It's not too late to join" fliers are available for second recruiting events.

Your Unit on the Internet

computerFor many families, the decision to join Scouting is going to start with online engagement. It is vital that parents can find your unit using internet searches.

We suggest you list your feeder school(s) and/or church in the description. The Cubmaster and committee chair have access to update the information. Helpful hints can be found at shac.org/beascout-instructions.
