Selling gourmet popcorn is a wonderful opportunity for units to earn funds to support their entire year of Scouting.

Show-n-sell is similar to take-order sales, except Scouts have the popcorn in hand to sell to customers. All units are eligible to participate if they agree to the terms stated in the commitment order form. Packs, troops, and crews can request permission to sell in front of a retail store or chartered organization. Show-n-sell should not replace traditional take-order sales.

Wagon sales are another great way of selling for Scouts. It's a combination of the show-n-sell and take-order methods. The Scout takes actual products door to door in their neighborhoods to sell and is like a show-n-sell table on wheels. There is little risk as any unsold popcorn is rolled into traditional, take-order sales.

For popcorn distribution, every unit should send one or more representatives to pick up the popcorn order for the entire unit. Units need to bring full payment (unit check or money order), and a list of the top three sellers and the amounts sold. Remember to bring a large enough vehicle to hold all the popcorn (mid-size vehicles hold about 15 cases; sport utility vehicles hold about 30 cases; minivans with seats removed hold about 50 cases; for more than 50 cases consider renting a truck).

Every day is fully rewarding to you as a staff member and to the campers in whose lives you have made a difference. Great staff deliver a great camp experience! Serving as a camp staff member is available for motivated Scouts, Venturers, Explorers and Scouters. Camp work is often demanding as there is a packed schedule serving campers, but the opportunities, rewards, and experiences available are endless. Serving on camp staff is a great way to spend a summer.

NYLT Staff

After participation in an NYLT course, a Scout may apply to serve on staff. Youth who enjoyed NYLT may want to make sure other Scouts have the same rewarding experience by staffing an NYLT course. It is a lot of fun but also requires dedication to hard work and preparation. Conducting a National Youth Leadership Training course takes a great deal of planning, plenty of inspiration, and the enthusiastic participation of many dedicated people. The rewards for participants, staff, and the Scouting movement are tremendous.

However, each chartered organization can use either of two other options to celebrate this special day.

An organization can adopt a specific Sunday to celebrate. In the instance of the United Methodist Church, Scout Sunday is celebrated on the second Sunday in February. It also is permissible for a local church to celebrate on the Sunday most acceptable to the pastor and congregation.

The Scout units are urged to participate in the religious services. Scout Sunday is an opportunity for units can attend services in uniform, conduct a flag ceremony, speak about Scouting, present religious awards and/or formally thank the chartering organization for their support throughout the year, reserve pews, take an active participation in the service such as a prayer, request a notice in the church bulletin. Consider having a recruiting information table in the foyer or hospitality area. A Scout is Reverent.

While walking the “foggy” streets of London in 1909, American businessman William Boyce got lost. A young boy offered to help him find his way. Boyce wanted to compensate him, but the boy declined. He explained that he was a Scout and it was his duty to help and Scouts never take money for doing good turns. Interested, William Boyce met with British founder Robert Baden-Powell. Boyce knew youth back home in America could benefit from a program like Scouting America.

It gives a rabbi a framework to address Scouts directly, in addition to speaking about Scouting to the congregation.

Some rabbis use regular liturgy and supplement it with special reading. Others devote the entire worship services to Scouting themes, using Scouts and Scouters as readers. There is no "one right way " to conduct such a service. Most rabbis understand the purpose to be a strengthening of the bonds between the synagogue and the Scouting unit and plan accordingly.

Many units have chaplains and chaplain's aides. Utilizing these individuals strengthens their commitments to the Scouting unit and to the Jewish organization that uses the Scouting program.

Another feature central to many service is the presentation of religious emblems. Since its inception in 1910, Scouting has been used by synagogues, churches, and many other religious organizations. Approximately 50 percent of all Scouting units today are chartered to religious groups, because religious leaders have long recognized that scouting provides them with exceptional opportunities to draw youth closer to their congregations.

The competition includes over 20 events that test a ship’s teamwork, training and preparation in a variety of nautical-related events. Some events, such as navigation, first aid, knot-tying relays, and marlin spike, require study and practice. Other events, such as the blindfold canoe race and the no-paddle canoe race, require luck and laughter to complete the course.

Ships from across Texas and Oklahoma look forward to the fun and fellowship. The highlight of the weekend is the annual Flotsam Flotilla race, featuring homemade vessels crafted from a variety of materials.

The Silver Beaver Award is the highest form of recognition that a local council can bestow on a volunteer. In 1931, BSA President Mortimer L. Schiff recommended to the national board that an award be devised for recognition of distinguished service to youth in the area of a local council, and the concept of the Silver Beaver recognition was established. Join your fellow Scouters in recognizing the recipients of the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award a council can bestow on a volunteer Scouter.

Every day is fully rewarding to you as a staff member and to the campers in whose lives you have made a difference. Great staff deliver a great camp experience!

Scouting America designates the Sunday that falls before February 8 (Scouting Anniversary Day) as Scout Sunday, which is the primary date to recognize the contributions of young people and adults to Scouting.

February 8, 1910, is the birthday of Scouting America.

Scout Sabbath, for Jewish Scout units, is always the Saturday after Scout Sunday and offers an opportunity for worshippers to honor Scouts and Scouters, as well as to learn more themselves about the value of Scouting as a youth program chartered to a Jewish organization.
